TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

WE ARE IN CHAPTER 12, PAYING FOR GOVERNMENT

YOU SHOULD KNOW—TAXES HAVE NOT ALWAYS BEEN PAID IN MONEY.  FOR EXAMPLE, SOME GOVERNMENTS HAVE TAXED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION BY REQUIRING FARMERS TO TURN OVER A PORTION OF THEIR GRAIN TO THE GOVERNMENT.  IN EARLY FRONTIER COMMUNITIES IN THE UNITED STATES, SOME CITIZENS PAID THEIR TAXES BY WORKING TO CONSTRUCT ROADS, SCHOOLS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY FACILITIES.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS FROM SECTION 1 OF CHAPTER 12.  USE COMPLETE SENTENCES.

1. WHAT DO GOVERNMENTS AIM TO DO WHEN THEY SET UP TAXES?

2. HOW DOES GOVERNMENT SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF DECIDING WHICH PROGRAMS TO FUND FIRST?

3. OTHER THAN TAXES, WHAT ARE TWO WAYS TO PAY FOR GOVERNMENT?

ON PAGE 298, SECTION 1 ASSESSMENT, CRITICAL THINKING, # 4, ANALYZING INFORMATION, DO THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER.

YOU ARE ANSWERING THREE QUESTIONS AND DOING THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER FOR FULL CREDIT.
