YOU NEEDED TO BECOME A “MAP MASTER, ” BECAUSE LEARNING ABOUT A COUNTRY OR AREA STARTS WITH FINDING IT ON A MAP. USING MAPS, THOUGH, IS MORE THAN JUST FINDING PLACES. MAPS CAN TEACH YOU MANY THINGS ABOUT A REGION, SUCH AS ITS CLIMATE, ITS VEGETATION, AND THE LANGUAGES THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE SPEAK. THEREFORE, YOU SPENT THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, LIKE ALL OF FLP SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSES K-12, BUILDING GEOGRAPHIC LITERACY, LEARNING MAP SKILLS. YOU SHOULD NOW BE BETTER ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR PROFICIENCY IN IDENTIFYING AND USING MAPS TO STUDY WORLD HISTORY. WE ARE NOW WORKING IN OUR WORLD HISTORY TEXT WHILE FINISHING UP OUR PREVIEW MAP WORK. BEGINNING THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND, THE CLASS WAS DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS. YOU ARE A HISTORIAN, AN ARCHAEOLOGIST, OR A GEOGRAPHER. YOU DO ONLY THE HOMEWORK, PROJECTS, AND CLASS ASSIGNMENTS FOR YOUR GROUP. THE STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO EACH GROUP ARE LISTED ON THE HOMEWORK WEBSITE EACH DAY IN CASE YOU FORGET THE GROUP.
WE BEGAN OUR STUDIES IN THE TEXTBOOK BY UNCOVERING THE PAST, CHAPTER 1. OUR ESSENTIAL QUESTION IS: WHY DO SCHOLARS STUDY PEOPLE, EVENTS, AND IDEAS OF LONG AGO? WE COVERED SECTION 1, STUDYING HISTORY AND SECTION 2, STUDYING GEOGRAPHY. THEN, OVER THE BREAK , WE WRAPPED UP CHAPTER 1 WITH THE QUESTION SECTION AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER.
WE REVIEWED OUR BREAK HOMEWORK AND PREPARED FOR THE QUIZ ON CHAPTER 1. WE THEN MOVED TO CHAPTER 2, THE STONE AGES AND EARLY CULTURES. OUR ESSENTIAL QUESTION FOR THIS CHAPTER WAS: HOW DID HUMANS’ WAYS OF LIVING CHANGE AS THEY INTERACTED AND ADAPTED?
WE COMPLETED CHAPTER 2, SECTION 1, THE FIRST PEOPLE. WE READ IT, DEFINED THE KEY TERMS, ANSWERED THE READING CHECK AND THE SECTION QUESTIONS. WE WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT THE SECTION MORE CAREFULLY AND THEN WENT ON TO SECTION 2.
WE HAVE CONNECTED OUR BEGINNING OF THE YEAR MAP SKILLS TO OUR TEXTBOOK CHAPTERS ON EARLY MAN. WE HAD SEVERAL MAPS FOR CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK. STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT THEY LEARNED ABOUT MAPPING AND ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT MAPPING IN COMPLETE SENTENCES.
WE FINISHED CHAPTER 2, SECTIONS 2 AND 3, EARLY HUMAN MIGRATION AND THE BEGINNINGS OF AGRICULTURE. THE FIRST MARKING PERIOD EXAM WILL COVER CHAPTERS 1 AND 2 IN THE TEXTBOOK AND OUR RECENTLY ACQUIRED MAP SKILLS.
WE COMPLETED END OF THE CHAPTER EXERCISES AND OUR STUDY GUIDE AND TOOK OUR FIRST MARKING PERIOD EXAM WITH THE GOAL: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO PASS THE EXAM WITH A MINIMUM GRADE OF 75%.
WE NOW BEGIN THE SECOND MARKING PERIOD WITH CHAPTER 3 IN OUR TEXTBOOK, WHICH WAS INTRODUCED ON THURSDAY.
WE ARE LOOKING AT CHAPTER 3, MESOPOTAMIA AND THE FERTILE CRESCENT WITH THE ESSENTIAL QUESTION: HOW DID GEOGRAPHY INFLUENCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF CIVILIZATION IN SOUTHWEST ASIA?
WE HAVE COMPLETED SECTION 1 OF CHAPTER 1 AND ARE NOW LOOKING AT SUMER IN SECTION 2 OF THE CHAPTER.
