THE ERUPTION OF MOUNT ST. HELENS

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURE AND NOTE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS HARRIS DAILY WORK ASSIGNMENT,  40 YEARS AGO TODAY, IN UNITED STATES, MOUNT ST. HELENS VOLCANO ERUPTED CAUSING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION.  RESEARCH VOLCANOES AND MOUNT ST. HELENS, IN PARTICULAR, AND WRITE, AT LEAST, TWO PARAGRAPHS ABOUT VOLCANOES AND MOUNT ST. HELENS FOR FULL CREDIT.

YOU CAN FIND LOTS OF INFORMATION ON LINE AND VIDEOS THAT TAKE YOU BACK TO THAT DAY.  FOR EXAMPLE:  WHY DID THE DAY OF THE WEEK IT ERUPTED MAKE A DIFFERENCE?  HOW DID A SCIENTIST’S TRADING WORK DAYS WITH HIS FRIEND SAVE HIS LIFE?

SEVERAL YEARS AFTER THE ERUPTION, MY HUSBAND, MR. BRADLEY, HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY A HELICOPTER OVER THE VOLCANO.  HE SAID THE MOUNTAIN WAS COVERED WITH ASH, NOTHING SEEMED TO BE ALIVE AND/OR GROWING, AND SMOKE STILL CURLED OUT OF THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN.

FOR BONUS POINTS:   IN ADDITION TO WRITING THE PARAGRAPHS,  AFTER RESEARCHING, DRAW A PICTURE OF MOUNT ST. HELENS AT ANY STAGE IN ITS HISTORY:  BEFORE IT ERUPTED, WITH SNOW ON THE VERY TOP AND TREES AND GREENERY BELOW;   DURING ERUPTION WITH SMOKE, ASH, AND DEVASTATION;   AFTER THE VOLCANO SUBSIDED WITH ASH COVERING THE MOUNTAIN;  OR TODAY, WITH NEW GROWTH FINALLY COMING BACK TO THE MOUNTAINSIDE.  TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR PICTURE AND SHOW OFF YOUR WORK!
