TASK #1 for TODAY: TED Talk – A Life Lesson from a Volunteer Firefighter by Mark Bezos

You are about to hear a voluntary firefighter tell about one of his most memorable experiences working at a fire scene (CLICK HERE). After you listen to the story, in MS Word answer the following questions (be sure to include a proper HEADING in the header and Save As, Last Name_TED TALK1 and save in your folder):

1. What is your definition of a hero?
2. Have you heard any stories in the news or on social media about people doing kind things for other people, even strangers? Talk about one of those stories.
3. Do you think a small act of kindness can have a big impact on someone? Why?
4. Why did he want to get to the scene early?
5. Why was he jealous of “Lex Luther” the man who got there before him? Why does he refer to him as Lex Luther?
6. Why was he unhappy with the assignment he was given?
7. What does he realize after reading the letter from the homeowner?
8. Have you ever done any volunteer work? What did you do? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
9. Some research has suggested that when we do kind things for other people, it makes us happier. What do you think about that idea?
10. At the end of the talk, the speakers says not to wait until we are rich to try and help someone, and then he gives some suggestions about what people can do to make a difference. What are some other ideas that you can think of that people can make a difference to another person?
