A. Do Now  – Does Everyone Make Mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes, but oftentimes we feel embarrassed about them. Making mistakes is important anytime we’re growing our brain and learning a new skill.

    1. Read the quote above. What does it mean to you?
    2. Write down a mistake you’ve made either at school or at home. How did you feel about making the mistake?
    3. What do you notice about yourself when you make mistakes?
    4. How can you use mistakes to grow?

C. Self Reflection

The Mysterious World of Neurons

  1. What are neurons and how do we make connections between our neurons? Think of an example where you made some new connections in your brain. What were you doing?
  2. What can you do this week to make some new connections? Set one specific goal.
  3. What did you do today to make connections between your neurons?
  4. What is one big challenge you’ve faced that has helped grow your brain?

Mojo Puts It All Together

  1. What does it feel like when something is too challenging? Is it wrong that we feel this way?
  2. What kind of attitude should you take on when facing a challenge, and why is that important?
  3. When taking on a challenge, it’s okay to ask for help or to take a break to reflect, like Mojo did! Does this mean you aren’t growing your brain anymore?
  4. Sometimes when we are working on a challenging task, we may think, “just try harder.” Is there a way to change this phrase?
  5. What are some strategies you can use when facing a big challenge, so that you don’t burn out?
  6. Brainstorm phrases you can use to keep you going when facing a challenge (e.g., “Nice effort trying to solving that math problem!”).
  7. Think of your life right now, what is a BIG challenge you want take on? What is something you can do today to work towards that challenge?
